Bicycle Links CIC (community interest company) was set up by Jason Smith and Lucy Hall and started trading in 2012.
Our ambition was to build a cycle hub for Norwich that served the widest possible range of bicycle users, including commuters, leisure cyclists and ‘newbies’. It should be female-friendly and jargon free.
In addition, as a social enterprise, we established three Social Aims which we hope to address alongside our trading activities:
- to give unemployed and disadvantaged people bike repair skills and workshop experience
- to refurbish unwanted bikes and give them a new lease of life
- to encourage cycling as a sustainable means of transport
Our commercial aspect generates the day-to-day income that ensures that Bicycle Links, our workshop resources and fantastic staff team keep tacking over. Within this framework we then seek funding or donations to run the social impact projects that are at the heart of what we do.
